A blast of cold wind can refresh you, especially during the hot season. The weather can leave you feeling sweaty. Having an air conditioner in the house helps keep your family fresh and comfortable during the warm season.

Since an air conditioner is helpful, you have to take care of it so that it will perform well. If you have an air conditioning unit at home, here are some tips which can help you in the maintenance of your air con. Check these specific parts in order to ensure that your unit remains in its best state.

Wirings

Turn off your air conditioner before you do any maintenance work on it. After removing the access panel on the condensing unit, examine for wire damage such as melted insulation or burnt out wires. If you’re not confident in fixing it yourself, you can hire experts to work on your unit.

Filters

Check the air filter of your AC unit. The time interval for the cleaning or replacement of air filters depends on the type of unit that you have in your house. If you have a window or wall-mounted unit, check the instructions on the manual on how to remove the filter.

Make sure that you follow the instructions to avoid damaging your air con unit. Remove the dust from the filter and wash with lukewarm water with soap. Reattach the filter if it’s dry.

If you have a central air conditioning unit, lifestyle plays a prominent role when it comes to changing or cleaning the filters. You can check it every two to three months. If you have kids or pets in your house, you might have to check your unit monthly for dirt and dust.

Coils

If you have a window type at home, you need to open the unit to gain access to the coils. Don’t use a brush with stiff bristles because it might damage the coils. Use a brush with soft bristles or a cloth to remove the dirt. If the dirt sticks to the coils, you can try spraying water mixed with mild detergent. For outdoor units, clean the area around the coil and remove potential sources of dirt near the unit.

For a central air conditioning system, turn it off and clean the outdoor unit first. If you see anything blocking the exterior fins, you can use water to help clean the unit but be careful to avoid the electrical box. You can turn it on once the unit is dry.

Thermostat

Remove the grille and control panel before removing the thermostat. Use a tester to check if the thermostat is functioning correctly. If the meter reads zero at the coldest setting, it means that there is nothing wrong. If it goes higher than zero, replace it with a brand new one but make sure that you get the same type.

Condenser

Use a cleaner to clean the condenser. For the fins, use a soft brush to remove dirt. Be careful in cleaning the fins because it can be easily damaged. Use a fin comb to remedy bent fins.

Evaporator

For central air conditioning systems, remove the insulation as carefully as you can. Remove screws from the access plate and lift it up. Clean the underside of the unit using a brush with stiff bristles. CLean the tray under the unit as well. You can use a tablespoon of bleach to minimize fungus growth.

Takeaway

The hot season can get very uncomfortable due to high temperatures. It can leave you and your family sweaty and dehydrated. Air Conditioners can help keep your family safe from the heat, and you can also enjoy doing the things that you love at the comfort of your home. Check out sites like G Store to have a look at their offerings.

It’s important to take care of your air conditioner so that it can last for a long time. Check the parts mentioned when you do your maintenance check. Always remember to turn off your air con unit before cleaning, and always be careful if you’re cleaning your unit yourself.
